Metal Monday: Rock on the Range rages in Columbus next weekend

Although we like to keep it local to the Northeast Ohio area here at Nasty Fancy, we all know that sometimes you have to step outside your usual boundaries to get the best shows. Well, this year’s Rock on the Range in Columbus — which is just about 2.5 hours away from the Kent/ Akron/ Canton region — has got several great reasons why you should follow the lead of tens of thousands of others and trek to the heart of the state next weekend.

The 2012 Rock on the Range runs May 18 – 20 at Columbus Crew Crew Stadium and is, according to its website, “America’s premier destination rock festival.” Disclaimer: there are some shitty fucking bands on the bill, but out of about the 44 packed into the three-day festival, there’s bound to be some disappointments. However, Sunday’s lineup includes several metal favorites including Rob Zombie, Mastodon, Megadeth, Anthrax, Marilyn Manson, Soil and Trivium, which is a grouping that could carry a festival by itself. With multiple stages and multiple shows on multiple days, there’s something for everyone’s tastes.

Here’s a tentative list of bands and times (subject to change of course) courtesy of Rock on the Range so you can plan out your own rockin’ journey:
