The Appleseed Cast – Middle States EP
They’re from Kansas. And that is in the “Middle States,” or middle of the states if you want to get technical. These guys have been around since before I knew what good music was, which makes them no stranger to change. But over the years, one thing has been one consistant with the four-piece band: They love to jam. There is no lack of that on this EP.
Two of the four tracks “Interlude” and “Three Rivers” are instrumental. These tracks showcase the band’s ability to make you feel like you’re dreaming with their melodic instrumentals that leave you feeling like you’re in the movie Inception. “Three Rivers” is a little over 14 minutes long, making it almost impossible to listen all the way through without a feeling of extreme peacefulness.
The title track “Middle States” has a classic Appleseed Cast sound. For those who are longtime fans of this band, this EP does not disappoint. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys in April at the Grog Shop in Cleveland, Ohio, and they were great. They happened to play the title track off this EP, and the audience’s response? Loved it! You can expect to see a full length album from the band sometime in 2012. I know, that’s not specific enough. But I bet it’ll be gold.
